The neighbouring language Polish is becoming increasingly important in the border region. It not only opens up job opportunities for its speakers in a wide range of professional fields (tourism, administration, education and culture) on the German side, but also in Poland itself. As a result, the demand for Polish language skills is constantly on the rise.
It is therefore important to be able to learn Polish from an early stage of school education. For this reason, Polish is included as a possible third or fourth subject in the primary education degree course at the University of Greifswald. The curriculum includes basic knowledge in the fields of linguistics and literature, but the focus is on language skills and the teaching of Polish to young language learners. Students wishing to choose Polish as a third or fourth subject require knowledge of Polish Language at level A2 (CEFR).
