Teacher-training degree courses for Russian and Polish

The University of Greifswald provides teacher-training degree courses for future teachers of Polish or Russian. Two degree courses are on offer: teacher-training degrees for Russian or Polish at Gymnasium (up to year 12) and Regionale Schule (up to year 10). The degree course consists of two main subjects - for example Polish or Russian and another teaching subject - and is completed in a standard length of study of ten semesters. The modularised course is completed with the Erstes Staatsexamen (First State Examination).
There are no admission restrictions for the subjects Polish or Russian.
Subject profile
The teacher-training degree courses for Polish and Russian prepare students for the teaching profession in academic and practical classes.
Teaching in the degree course is based around the academic and theoretical examination of the language, literature and culture of Poland or Russia. The course also provides in-depth, practical intercultural knowledge about linguistic connections, the history, politics, economic, geographical and social characteristics of the Polish and Russian-speaking regions. The comprehensive practical language training enables students to master all communication situations with confidence. The didactic components of the degree course enable students to practise the planning, organisation and implementation of Polish and Russian lessons.
Contact with the country and its people: language acquisition and a period of stay abroad
As part of a degree course in a modern foreign language such as Polish or Russian, students must complete a period of stay abroad of at least three months in the country that is home to the language being studied. Additional foreign language skills are also required. Knowledge of two other foreign languages (level A2 CEFR) is required for the Gymnasium teaching degree and knowledge of one other foreign language (level A2 CEFR) for the teaching degree for Regionale Schule. Details are regulated in the joint examination and study regulations for the modularised teacher-training degree courses.
Become a teacher, but how?
In addition to subject-specific and didactic training at the Department of Slavonic Studies, teaching degree courses also include components from educational science.
